Introduction to Computers 1

This 3 session course covers the fundamentals of using a personal computer with Microsoft Windows. It provides hands-on training in the use of a mouse and the skills necessary to use Windows. No prior experience is required. The course is designed to make the student feel comfortable using a computer. It introduces some popular computer applications including use of the Internet.

This course is also intended for anyone who wants to know more about the computer before deciding to buy one. You do not need to have a computer to take this course.

This course is three weeks long with one session per week. The price of this course is $30.00, payable at the time of registration.

Introduction to Computers 2

This 6 session course is the follow-on to Introduction to Computers 1. The course covers the operations of windows, file management, using a word processor, sending and receiving e-mail with attachments and using a browser to find information on the the Internet. Graduates of this course should be able to use a personal computer productively at home.

This course is six weeks long with one session per week. The price of this course is $60.00, payable at the time of registration.

There are two special requirements for this course:

First, practice is very important in learning how to use a computer. You must have a Windows computer to practice on between classroom sessions.

Second, normally, Introduction to Computers 1 must be completed before taking this course. However, If you can answer "Yes" to all of the following five questions, you can go directly into Introduction to Computers 2:

  1. Do you have a Microsoft Windows computer?
  2. Are you comfortable using a computer keyboard and a mouse or other pointing device?
  3. Do you know how to use the Windows Start menu?
  4. Can you manage multiple open windows?
  5. Can you use an Internet browser?
If you answer "No" to any of these questions, you should take Introduction to Computers 1 before taking Introduction to Computers 2. If you are not sure, come to our Open House any Monday between noon and 3:00 p.m. Our volunteers will help you decide.
