Buying and Selling on eBay
      This four session course covers the basics of buying and selling items on eBay. Two sessions will be on buying. Students will learn how to search for items on eBay and how the bidding process works. There will be exercises on how to determine the fair price for items being offered for sale and how to evaluate sellers before you place a bid. The second two sessions will be on selling. Students will learn about registering as a seller, creating an eBay listing and completing the sale. Included will be eBay fees, determining the shipping cost, packaging, and payment options.
      Students must have completed Introduction to Computers 2 or equivalent to take this course. See below for the schedule of classes. The price of this course is $40.00, payable at the time of registration.

CD Burning
      This three session course introduces the use of a CD-RW drive for music and data management, backing up the hard drive and storing pictures. "Ripping" and "burning" will be explained. The course uses the free Microsoft Windows Media Player which has a variety of options for music management. The Easy CD Creator program by Roxio will also be used. Students will be able to make their own CD's. The difference between creating a CD all-at-once and a file at a time will be explained and demonstrated. If time permits, video CD's will be discussed.

Computer Genealogy
      This six session course covers the use of a personal computer and the Internet to collect and organize family history information. The course uses the free Personal Ancestral File genealogy program for data entry as well as Family Tree Maker. Students will learn to enter and edit data, document sources, add photos, exchange genealogy information with others, publish results and search the internet for genealogical data. The instructors are thoroughly versed in the use of computers for genealogical research.
      Experience in genealogy, at least three generations of family history, and basic computer skills are required for this course. See below for the schedule of classes. The price of this course is $45.00, payable at the time of registration.

Crafting With Your Computer
      The description of this course is under construction. Here are some highlights of the course:

  • 7 session course
  • Covers crafts from greeting cards to scrapbooks
  • Includes scanning and simple photo editing
  • Uses Print Artist, version 22

Intermediate Internet
      This six session course is for the "surfer" who wants to do more than just browse the Web. Students get hands-on experience in power browsing, finding and downloading software, graphics and the latest Internet developments.
      Using the Internet (or equivalent experience) is a prerequisite to this course. See below for the schedule of classes. The price of this course is $45.00, payable at the time of registration.

Protecting Your Computer
      This three-session course is designed to help keep your computer operating safely and efficiently. The course will cover how to prevent viruses and spyware from infecting your computer, how to keep Windows up-to-date, how to prevent others from gaining access to your computer, how to minimize annoying emails and Internet pop-ups, how to install programs, how to backup your data, and how to handle unexpected problems. It also covers privacy issues including how to protect your identity.
      Students must have completed Introduction to Computers 2 or equivalent. See below for the schedule of classes. The price of this course is $25.00, payable at the time of registration.

Using the Internet
      This four session course builds on the e-mail and Internet material in Introduction to Computers 1 and Introduction to Computers 2. The e-mail portion will emphasize sending and receiving pictures and other attachments. The Internet portion will include tips and techniques for more effective browsing and will explain how to download programs and other files. Each student will get hands-on experience. All of our computers have a high-speed connection to the Internet. The Microsoft Internet Explorer browser and Outlook Express e-mail program will be used in class.
      Students must have completed Introduction to Computers 2 or equivalent. See below for the schedule of classes. The price of this course is $35.00, payable at the time of registration.

Using Your Digital Photos
      This four session course helps you understand the many wonderful things you can do on the computer with the photos from your digital camera. The course will cover:

  • General concepts of digital camera operation
  • Tips on picture taking
  • Transferring digital pictures to your computer
  • How to store and organize your pictures
  • Editing and enhancing your photos
  • Printing photos
  • E-mailing photos
  • How to create a wonderful slide show of your photos, complete with music and effect
The class will also touch on scanning photos, adding text to photos and creatively adding photos to word processing and other documents. You will be given class materials to work with and references to further your knowledge. Programs used will be provided free to each student.
      You must have a digital camera and a computer to take this course. You must have also completed Introduction to Computers 2 or have the equivalent experience. See below for the schedule of classes. The price of this course is $40.00, payable at the time of registration.

Word Processing
      This is a five week course, one session per week. It is a intermediate course in word processing using OpenOffice. Emphasis is on understanding the concepts of word processing, rather than the specifics of a particular word processing program.
      Completion of the Introduction to Computers 2 course or equivalent is a prerequisite to taking this course. See below for the schedule of classes. The price of this course is $50.00, payable at the time of registration.
